Scholarships - 2023-2024

Each scholarship has different requirements & due dates.  Please pay close attention to who and where you turn each application in.   I will update this site with new scholarships as I get them.  Check back often!  : )

South Plains College
 

Students will only have to complete one general scholarship application.  Students will need to answer six short answer questions, submit at least one reference letter, an activity resume, SAT/ACT scores, if they have taken the tests (they are not required), and a high school transcript with grades through the Fall 2023 semester.  Any question with an * is required and must be answered.

Lions Club International Scholarships
 

Lions Club is offering several scholarships and youth contests. 

Lions Club is offering three different scholarships/competitions.

Vexus Scholarship
 

Amount and Disbursement of Scholarship

Up to seventeen (15) $3,000 scholarships will be awarded by the Vexus Scholarship Program Committee. The scholarship will be made available shortly after the first semester begins once the committee receives a Verification of Enrollment letter from the Student Financial Aid and/or Scholarship Office of the institution that the recipient will be attending. No money will be paid directly to the recipient. A check will be mailed to the institution’s Scholarship Office.

Qualification Criteria

The recipient must be a person completing their high school education whose address at which they legally reside (by self, parent or legal guardian) must be within one of the following cities in the State of Texas: Abernathy, Burkburnett, Borger, Canyon, Colorado City, Hale Center, Iowa Park, Levelland, Littlefield, New Deal, Olton, Pampa, Shallowater, Slaton, Smyer, Whitharral, Whitehouse. High School seniors and non-traditional students can apply. Non-traditional students include those students attending private, parochial, home school or have obtained their GED.

Texas Telephone Association Foundation Scholarship

The Texas Telephone Association Foundation (TTAF), a non-profit, philanthropic organization founded to help further the understanding of telephony and advance telecommunications as a career choice, will award six, four-year scholarships, in the amount of $2,000 per year to students entering college for the 2024-2025 school year.

Capital Farm Credit Youth Scholarship

​

Capital Farm Credit awards $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors across its market territories.

Youth scholarships are awarded using the following eligibility requirements:

1. Funds shall be used to attend an accredited vocational or technical school, college or university. 
Student must maintain full time status.

2. Applicants must be high school seniors, graduating within the current school year. 

3. Applicant must demonstrate that they have a tentative educational plan and goals, related to 
fields in agriculture or natural resources (may include Ag Communications, Ag 
Economics/Business, Ag Education, Wildlife or Ranch Management, etc.).

4. Applicants must include the following documents for consideration: 
a. Completed application along with copy of recent high school transcript
b. 2 letters of recommendation

Texas Rural Women's Association Scholarship

​

Texas Rural Electric Women’s Association (TREWA) is offering 20 scholarships, at $1,500 each, to current TREWA members and their children. You can join TREWA at the same time you submit a scholarship application. Dues are only $10. Applicants must also be a current member of South Plains Electric Cooperative.

The objective of TREWA is to educate and create interest and understanding of rural electric systems and issues among the members and general public, and to present a unified front for the member-owned systems as they improve the quality of life in rural Texas.

Junior League of Lubbock Scholaship
 

The Junior League of Lubbock (JLL) is pleased to offer a $2,500 Volunteer Service Award Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a young woman who is either a high school senior,or has obtained a GED within the current League year, or is attending a transitional school who has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to voluntarism.

The criteria for selection are as follows:

  • Female

  • High school senior, or obtained a GED in the current League year, or is attending a transitional school

  • Attending post-secondary education in 2024 through spring of 2025

  • Resident of Lubbock, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Crosby, Garza, Lynn, Terry or Hockley counties

  • Demonstrated commitment to voluntarism

Hispanic Association of Women, Inc.​

 

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
>  Must be female.
>  Must be a May 2024 high school graduate residing within a 60-mile radius of Lubbock, Texas or an enrolled college student who graduated from a high school within a 60-mile radius of Lubbock, Texas.
>  Must be planning to attend or currently attending an accredited higher education institution.
>  Must be planning to attend college for Fall 2024.
>  The following personal statement/essay must be answered on application:  "Hispanic Association of Women promote the educational opportunities for all women and empower all women and youth.  How will your higher education/career aspirations contribute to our mission?"

Windmill Scholarship 
 

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • Must currently reside in one of the Texas Counties within the PPHEF service area for scholarship consideration. Please review the PPHEF Service Area Counties to see if you are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

  • Plan to enroll or currently enrolled at a governmental or non-profit educational institution, located in the State of Texas that has been accredited by a recognized accrediting agency, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and provided the institution offers an academic degree program requiring at least two school years attendance.  Note: Degree or Certificate programs that are described as technical programs or do not prepare a student to transfer to a college and work toward a baccalaureate degree are not eligible programs for scholarship consideration.

  • Applicant must be either a current Texas High School Graduate from an accredited public or private Texas high school, or a currently enrolled undergraduate college student without a Bachelor's degree, with at least 2.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  • Full-time college enrollment is required for scholarship consideration.

  • Eligibility will be assessed by reviewing information concerning academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities, leadership and references provided in the application process.

  • Applications will be reviewed and scored on a 100 point scale to determine eligibility and award amount for the scholarship.

  • If awarded, funds will be sent directly to the college or university for credit or disbursement to the student account.

Vexus Scholarship

Carl N. and Margaret Karcher Founders' Scholarship


 

The Carl N. and Margaret Karcher Founders' Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll for the first time in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited college or university. Ten recipients are selected for the scholarship each year, and each receives $10,000 toward tuition at the university of their choosing.
 

Scholarships are available to all eligible students in the 16 states where Carl's Jr. operates. Applicants must be 26 years old or younger and be an incoming freshman at an accredited college or university. Applications are due by 3 p.m. PST on April 4, 2024.

2024 Government-in-Action Youth Tour  

You could win a $1,000 scholarship and ALL EXPENSE paid trip to Washington!  The trip is June 16-23, 2024. 
 
  • Applicants must be a high school junior or senior.

  • Applicants must be a member, a child or stepchild of a member, or child whose guardian is a member of the Cooperative; or person living in a home where the landlord is a member.

  • Applicants must reside in the Cooperative service area, participate in Operation Round Up, and attend a qualifying school. If you are not currently participating in Operation Round Up, we’ll automatically enroll you when you submit the Youth Tour application. The qualifying schools are: Abernathy, Anton, Aspermont, Childress, Chillicothe, Coronado, Cotton Center, Crosbyton, Crowell, Estacado, Floydada, Frenship, Guthrie, Hale Center, Idalou, Jayton-Girard, Lorenzo, Lubbock-Cooper, Lubbock, Monterey, Motley Co., New Deal, New Home, Olton, Paducah, Patton Springs, Petersburg, Plainview, Post, Quanah, Ralls, Roosevelt, Ropesville, Rotan, Shallowater, Slaton, Southland, Smyer, Spur and Wilson. EECU Scholarship

 Each year, EECU awards up to eight $5,000 scholarships for students who are pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree. Awards are disbursed in $1,250 annual increments as long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements.

Eligibility
The Scholarship Committee will consider those students who meet the following eligibility requirements and proof of intent:

  • Applicant must be a high school senior

  • Applicant or parent/legal guardian must be a Member in good standing with EECU

  • Applicant must express on their application his/her intended field of study

  • Recipient of scholarship funds must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 to receive annual distribution funds

  • The scholarship must be used for the purpose of study at an accredited college or university

  • Academic achievement, character, leadership, community involvement and work experience, and personal recommendations will be considered in the selection of scholarship recipient

Scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $10,000 to $25,000, with more than 600 scholarships available.

Lubbock Christian University

LCU Guarantee

Lubbock Christian University has implemented a plan to guarantee tuition and mandatory fees to new entering first-year students who are Texas residents and are full Pell Grant eligible.  The LCU Guarantee will be paid by a combination of federal, state, and institutional funds.  To meet eligibility requirements students must enroll full-time and live on campus.

 

Lubbock Chrisitan University’s West Texas Promise

LCU’s West Texas Promise is our promise to admitted students that AT A MINIMUM they will qualify for $7,000 per year or $28,000 over four years.  Students who submit a completed FAFSA to LCU will be eligible for additional institutional aid.

Golden Spread Electric Coop. Scholarship
 

QUALIFICATION:If you are high school senior and live in one of Golden Spread's Member Territories, you are eligible to apply for our Directors' Memorial Scholarship, in partnership with The Opportunity Plan. Your Cooperative membership will be verified using the utility bill required in your application.

TIMELINE:Applications open January 1st. Completed applications are due by March 1st each calendar year. Directors' Memorial Scholarship recipients will be notified in May and recipients will receive a notification from Opportunity Plan, Inc.

Smyer ISD Local Scholarships 

Application Checklist

 

  • All applications must include a copy of your most recent transcript.

 

  • If you are selected for a scholarship, you must show proof of enrollment (Schedule) at an institution of higher learning to collect the award. This proof must be presented to Amy Jo Smith at Central Office.

 

  • If you are selected for an award, it is customary to write a thank you note to the family or organization sponsoring the scholarship. You can drop these off at the central office upon receiving your award.

To apply for a scholarship, send a completed application to TACS by 11:59 PM Central Standard Time on March 16th, 2024. The student selected will be presented the scholarship at their school.

There is no limit to the number of scholarships a single student can apply for, as long as the applicant meets the requirements of each scholarship.
